Dr Dhammike Silva (MD, MD, MRCOG (UK), Diploma Gynaecological Endoscopy (France) is consultant Gynaecologist and Obstetrician and a senior lecturer in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Colombo South Teaching Hospital.

Dr Silva graduated from the St. Petersburg Academy of Medicine, St Petersburg, Russia in 1995 with a first class honors. He completed his MD in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2005 from the University of Colombo and was awarded the Dr Nanayakkara Memorial gold medal for his performance in the exit examination. He underwent his overseas training at the Whipps Cross University Hospital, London from 2005-2007. The MRCOG was completed in 2007 and the International Inter-university Diploma in Gynaecological endoscopy from University of Auvergne Clermont-Ferrand, France was completed in 2014.

He is a member of the Sri Lanka College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and a council member of the SLCOG for 2018. He is also the chairman of the working committee of the SLCOG for Gynaecological endoscopy training and advancement in Sri Lanka. He is the head of department, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Professorial Unit, Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Colombo South Teaching Hospital.

Dr Silva has presented both nationally and internationally and published in national and international journals and an author of several books and chapters of books.

His special interests are,

  • Minimal access Gynaecology ranging from benign Gynaecology to malignancies
  • Treatment of deep infiltrating endometriosis
  • Conducting teaching sessions on advanced Gynaecological laparoscopy
  • Advancement of endoscopy services in Sri Lanka
  • Conducting laparoscopic training sessions for the consultants and theatre staff of peripheral hospitals in Sri Lanka

Dr Madura Jayawardane (MBBS, MRCOG (UK), Diploma in Gynaecological endoscopy (France), is a consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and a senior lecturer in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Colombo South Teaching Hospital, Sri Lanka.

Dr Jayawardane graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo in 2004 and obtained his MD in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2010 from the postgraduate institute of Medicine, University of Colombo. He became a board certified consultant in 2012 after completing overseas training at Whipps Cross University Hospital, Barts Health Trust in London, UK. During overseas training, he obtained MRCOG and completed Advanced Training Modules (ATSM) in medical education and Benign Gynaecological Hysteroscopy. Dr Jayewardene also obtained the inter-university Diploma in Gynaecological Endoscopy from University of Auvergne Clermont-Ferrand, France. He was the recipient of the Shan S Ratnam Young Gynaecologist award in 2015 at the Asia Oceania Congress of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Malaysia.

He is a member of BSGE and SLCOG and served as a council member in the Sri Lanka Menopause society and was the joint secretary of the Perinatal Society of Sri Lanka in 2015.

He has co-authored several books and published several research papers in both the local and international journals.

Dr Dilip Visvanathan
Dr Dilip Visvanathan

Dilip Visvanathan (MBBS, MD (UCL) FRCOG) is a Senior Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Whipps Cross University Hospital (Barts Health NHS Trust) in London UK. He qualified from Colombo Medical Faculty.

His main passion is in teaching and training and this takes the form of undergraduate training where he lectures at Barts and the Royal London Medical School and in Postgraduate education where he is the Chair of the Training Committee for North Central and East London. In addition to administering and input in to curricula, Mr Visvanathan provides surgical training in minimal access surgery for benign gynaecological disease and is the lead for the Endometriosis service at Barts Health.

He is currently the secretary to the Sri Lanka Focus group at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and the medical training initiative representative for the deanery for NCEL. He is one of the co organisers for the MRCOG Part 2 and 3 courses at Whipps Cross, which is the oldest, such course in the UK. He is passionate about education and has been invited to teach in Kuwait, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Malaysia and Sri Lanka. He has been recognized for innovation and multi professional education by winning the award for the most outstanding Training Program Director at UCLP 2017, the education faculty award for Barts Centenary celebrations 2017 and a Barts Health Hero’s award 2016.

Dr Kirana Arambage
Dr Dr Kirana Arambage

Dr Kirana Arambage is a Consultant Gynaecologist and Obstetrician works at the BSGE accredited Endometriosis Care and Research (CaRe) Centre, John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which is one of the busiest endometriosis centres in the UK. He is a Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Oxford and the Lead for Gynaecological Endoscopic Simulation Training at the postgraduate deanery, contributing to both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.

Dr Arambage was graduated from the University of Sri Jayawardanapura, Sri Lanka. He completed his postgraduate medical training in Oxford, London and Eastern postgraduate deaneries in the UK. He has trained in advanced minimal access surgery related to benign gynaecology, obstetrics and pelvic ultrasound scan. He has also completed RCOG accredited advanced laparoscopic specialist training in John Radcliffe Hospital. His additional MSc in advanced gynaecological endoscopic surgery from University of Surrey evaluated a structured training module for any laparoscopy, which has helped feed the proposed RCOG national simulation curriculum. He was awarded RCOG Bernhard Baron travelling fellowship and BSGE travel scholarship to get further training in centres of excellence in France (Strasbourg, Rouen) and in Australia (Royal Women's Hospital in Melbourne).

Kirana is senior council board member of the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE) and chairs Awards and Bursaries subcommittee. He is on the medical advisory panel of the charity Endometriosis UK, which gives a lot of support to women with endometriosis and pelvic pain.

Kirana is a co-author for the latest Cochrane review of the surgical treatment of endometriosis, European/RCOG guidelines on the management of distension media in operative hysteroscopy and consent for laparoscopic surgery. He has chaired and presented in many national and international conferences. These activities help him achieve his goal of driving innovation and providing the safest, evidenced based care in the field of benign gynaecology.

Dr Bawantha Dilshan Gamage (MBBS MRCS (Eng) Dip. in Lap. Surgery (France) FAMASI (India), MS (Colombo), FCSSL) is a Consultant Surgeon and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Surgery, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Colombo South Teaching Hospital.

Dr Gamage graduated from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in 1998 with upper second-class honours. His is a member of the court of examiners for the MRCS examination of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, a Member of the Board of study in Surgery. Trainer for post MD training in Colorectal Surgery and examiner in MD (Surgery) exit examination of the Post Graduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo, a Course director and a resource person of the basic laparoscopic skills course conducted by the College of Surgeons of Sri Lanka from 2010 up to date, a Tutor of the Future Surgeons Key Skills course conducted by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, a Faculty member of the Laparoscopic Cadaver Course 2016, conducted by the School of Oncology, The Christie Hospital, Manchester, UK, a Resource person of the Anatomy of Surgical Exposure course 2017 conducted by James Cook University, Australia and a Supervisor of the selective medical undergraduates of the University of Gothenburg, Sweden and the James Cook University of Queensland, Australia.

Professor Srinath Chandrasekera (MB MS FRCS FEBU) is the Professor in Surgery Consultant Urological Surgeon at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura Sri Lanka

He is the Honorary Secretary of the Board of Surgery at the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine of Sri Lanka, the Treasurer of the College of Surgeons of Sri Lanka, a council Member of the Sri Lanka Association of Urological Surgeons, a Faculty member of AUSTEG (Asian Urological Surgery Training & Education Group) and an Examiner at MRCS (UK) and MD Surgery (Sri Lanka)

Professor Chandrasekera has pioneered Paediatric PCNL in Sri Lanka and has been one of the key personnel to establish adult PCNL. He is passionate about teaching and training and conducts regular training programs in endourology for European and African Surgeons since 2011. He has presented both nationally and internationally and is widely published

Dr Nilanganie Lamahewage (MBBS, MD in Anaesthesia, FRCA) is a senior Consultant in anaesthesia, critical care and pain medicine at the Colombo South Teaching Hospital. She is an Examiner in the MD (Anaesthetics) examination and a lecturer of the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo. She is a postgraduate trainer in Anaesthesia and Intensive care, Critical care Medicine, Diploma in Anaesthesia, Diploma in Critical care, General Medicine and a teacher for Undergraduates of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. She is also a visiting Lecturer to the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

Dr Lamahewage completed her MD in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care in Sri Lanka and was appointed as a Registrar in Anaesthesia and Intensive care in UK where she completed the North West anaesthesia rotation, covering special fields such as chronic pain, intensive care, plastics and reconstructive surgery, paediatrics, cardiothoracic, vascular, neurosurgery, genitourinary surgery, obstetrics and gynecology and gynaecologial and surgical Laparoscopy. She has participated in many workshops and teaching programs in the above fields both in Sri Lanka and overseas including the UK, USA, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Hong Kong. She was instrumental in organizing perioperative care services for laparoscopic bariatric surgery, laparoscopic and thoracoscopic gastrointestinal surgery, minimally invasive urological procedures in both paediatrics and adults and advanced gynaecological laparoscopic surgery.

Her special interests are,

  • Provision of perioperative care for complex gynaecological and surgical laparoscopy, genitourinary surgery, especially endourology, and laparoscopic bariatric surgery.
  • Acute and Chronic pain management
  • Intensive care with modern monitoring and therapeutic techniques, advanced ventilatory strategies and other organ supportive techniques
  • Teaching and training of undergraduates and postgraduates, nurses, and technical staff

Miss Himali Malawiarachchi is a nursing officer attached to the operating theatre of the Colombo South Teaching Hospital, Sri Lanka.

She qualified from the Nurses Training School- Ratnapura in 2001 and commenced working at Colombo South teaching Hospital. She has participated in national and international training courses in Advanced Gynaecological, Urological and surgical endoscopy.

She is a tutor for the nurses at national level on theatre assistance in laparoscopic surgery as well as instrument care and maintenance.
